DOUGHBOY OF THE DAY from "First Over There": A Baltimore native and Harvard graduate, George Redwood volunteered for the first round of officer training when America entered the war against Germany in 1917.
What a great piece of history to share, blasts from the past, the men to serve, for the rites of the poor, weak, young, and young at heart, the USA, thanks again. Thanks for service, thanks for share, cheers and chaps, to the military, veterans now, one frog in the air, back on track to see home. In your skin, always home, views of family, within yourself, in the center, me, myself, and the voices with in, over time, over space. Angels in the air, angels to watch, angels to guide, angels with messages from the dead. Angels Calls, History Across The Lines, Rats Racers, Rainbow Readers:Birds In Flight. DOUGHBOY OF THE DAY from "First Over There": A Baltimore native and Harvard graduate, George Redwood volunteered for the first round of officer training when America entered the war against Germany in 1917. He landed in France in September and was assigned to the 1st Division. As a battalion intelligence officer in the 28th Infantry, he studied German until he could speak it fluently, and in the Ansauville Sector near Seicheprey, he led the first American raid in February 1918--99 years ago this month--on the enemy trenches, and in a subsequent raid in March, earned the Croix de Guerre and Distinguished Service Cross.
On May 28, 1918, he went forward with the infantry attack on Cantigny, the first US attack of the war, and though wounded in his shoulder by a German bullet early in the battle, he was seen by different soldiers at all points of the battlefield, helping platoon leaders and company commanders find their way to their objectives. That afternoon, he finally made his way back to the field dressing station for his wound, but hearing a German counterattack, he ran toward the front lines, and while trying to keep an infantry company from withdrawing under heavy shellfire, he was killed by shrapnel.
For his actions, he was posthumously awarded a second Distinguished Service Cross. After the war, in his hometown of Baltimore, "German Street" downtown was renamed "Redwood Street," a name it still keeps to this day [Photo Courtesy of Williams College Archives] "First Over There" tells the true story of the US 1st Division in the First World War, and is ON SALE at bookstores and online: Amazon: http://smarturl.it/First_AMZ B&N: http://smarturl.it/First_BN

Wake up and smell the roses, wake up the girls, waiting for real lights of rights, reasons, and rites of passages. Good times to share, gifts to exchange, tales and stories, while trapped in the darkness. Dogwood butterflies for the new births, for the rebirths, of dreams, wishes and prayers. Earth angels, fairies, and pixies in the stars on the ground with lights on, for the third form of life, in a blue state. Happy notes to share, gifts of joys and pleasures, teaching lessons to the birds and bees.
